Grand Antiques 2019

For the 2019 edition of Grand Antiques at Liljevalchs in Stockholm, Jacksons presents a dialogue between Scandinavia and Italy, two powerhouses of Design. The cornerstone of the exhibition is founded on the exploration of two groundbreaking Danish ceiling lights: Poul Henningsen’s rare and important ‘House of the Future’ from 1959 and Verner Panton’s eponymous Wonderlamp ‘Type G’ from 1969. Designed exactly ten years apart, the relationship between the two designers was close and long lasting. Verner Panton was married to Poul Henningsens daughter, and Henningsen remained Panton’s mentor for life. Taking an architectural angle, both designers simultaneously explored the concept of color, consideration of structure and concealment of the light source itself.

The room is centered around Mario Ceroli’s furniture for Poltronova circa 1972, including the distinct ‘La Bocca Della Verita’ (The Mouth of Truth) bed. Finnish designer Yrjö Kukkapuro’s lights illuminate the space with a solitary sculpture by Alvar Aalto on the far right wall and a ’Nairobi’ cabinet by Ettore Sottsass on the left. Set against Carl Bergsten’s iconic setting from 1916, the result is an illuminating take on International design, engaging two world class nations of Design from a contemporary perspective.
